Will You Stand Back While Others Try to Make a Difference?
A Message from past PPAI Chair Paul Kiewiet: As many of you know, there have been an onslaught of issues that came from several directions; a medical association (PhRma), state governments and in Washington - that can have a chilling effect on our industry. What you may not be aware of is just how loudly we must all cry out to our representatives on both a state and national level to make our voices heard.
If you read this and DO NOTHING...when things get worse, remember this warning. There are several issues that we should be speaking out about. In February 2009 the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) goes into effect in and applies to existing product inventory. In addition, there are Health Care Industry actions, Independent Contractor issues, Small Business Tax and Estate Tax issues and an Employee Free Choice Act - any of which, and all of which will affect our livelihoods and those of our industry friends. If you haven't been to the PPAI Law Website, please take a minute today to do so. Pick an issue or two that you want to help influence. Enter your zip code and you will be provided with a form, a letter that you can send or customize and the email addresses of your representatives. Send an e-mail today! It's easy and will only take you a couple of minutes. If you do this and ask several of your friends to do the same, we will make our voices heard in Washington and can influence the outcome of future legislation and regulation. If our industry sits back quietly, we will all be pointing fingers and wondering what hit us when we get legislated out of markets, regulated into ambiguity and taxed out of business. We need to be spreading the word in newsletters, virally, on our networks and person to person so that our representatives know that we are out here and that their well-intentioned actions are having very negative unintended consequences.
